Card spending abroad cost calculator

A fee-free allowance is worth a lot at low spend and little at high spend. Enter what you spend on the card in other currencies in a month and see what each account charges for it.

Disclosure Links to providers on this page earn this site nothing. They go to the provider’s own site unmodified, with no tracking parameters. If that ever changes, this notice changes with it. Full disclosure.

At £1,500 a month, 5 accounts charge nothing in fees: Chase Current Account, Kroo Current Account, Monzo (free account), N26 Standard and Starling Personal. What separates them is the rest: which currencies they hold and what cash abroad costs.

Published fees on each account’s free or standard plan, from the provider’s own fee page, checked October 2026. Cash withdrawals abroad are priced separately and are not included.

How it is worked out

Each account’s conversion fee on the part of your spending above any fee-free allowance it gives each month, plus its monthly fee. These are the figures the neobanks comparison scores, with your spending in place of its £1,500.

The fee is what the account charges on top of the exchange rate it uses. The rate itself differs: some accounts use Mastercard’s or Visa’s, some their own, and Revolut’s allowance applies at its weekday rate. That difference is not in the figures. The guide to the cheapest card to spend abroad covers it.
